Part I    Introduction of Hainan Medical University

Hainan Medical University is located in Haikou, the provincial capital of Hainan Province, a tropical coastal city known as the "Coconut City", formerly known as HaiQiang Medical Technology School founded in 1947 and the private Hainan University Medical College founded in 1948. The university now has three campuses: Chengxi (main campus), Guilinyang (new campus), and Longhua, covering an area of 1416.71 acres. Adhering to the motto of "virtue, rigor, erudition, harmony," the university continues to promote the spirit of "self-improvement, unity, and vigor," and has built a six-in-one medical education system that integrates "teaching-clinic-research-international cooperation-social service-cultural heritage." It has cultivated more than 70,000 high-quality medical and health talents for the country. It is the first batch of national pilot universities for the excellent doctor education and training program, the first batch of comprehensive reform pilot universities of the Ministry of Education, the construction unit of high level university of Hainan Province, the leading unit of National Emergency Medical Rescue Team (Hainan), and has fully embarked on a new era of independently cultivating high-level medical talents in Hainan.

The university has established a comprehensive and multi-level talent cultivation system that covers full-time undergraduate and postgraduate (master's and doctoral) education, international student education, adult education, and continuing education. Currently, there are 15,340 full-time students, including 12,207 undergraduates (with 633 international students) and 1,760 master's and doctoral students. Students have won multiple national level awards, including the first prize in innovation and entrepreneurship for pharmaceutical and traditional Chinese medicine college students, as well as the China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, the National Computer Design Competition for College Students, the National Life Science Competition, and the Inter-Medical School Physiology Quiz,IMSPQ in China.The university has a faculty and medical staff of 11,834, including 1,100 full-time teachers. Among them, there are 749 at the main campus, with 479 holding senior professional technical titles, 163 professors, and nearly 51.27% with doctoral degrees. It has 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2 National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 1 Chang Jiang Scholar, 7 national candidates of "100 million talents project", 4 national outstanding teachers, and 1 famous teacher of traditional Chinese medicine,5 selected by the Ministry of Education for the "New Century Excellent Talent Support Program" and 15 Hainan Province's "Double Hundred Talents Team."

The university offers 36 undergraduate majors in 4 disciplines, including medicine, science, and management, and has 5 national first-class undergraduate majors, 2 national specialties, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 national clinical teaching training demonstration center.The university has 3 of the largest tertiary A-level directly affiliated hospitals in the province, with a total of 7,020 open beds. The annual number of outpatient and emergency patients was 5.8809 million, and the number of discharged patients was 257,300, accounting for 12.64% and 21.13% of the total in the province, respectively. This has made significant contributions to Hainan Province's efforts to prevent major illnesses from leaving the island and clinical teaching.Additionally, it has 10 non-affiliated affiliated hospitals, 12 teaching hospitals, and 2 cooperative disease control centers, providing strong support for clinical teaching. It has 15 national clinical key specialties and 7 provincial key disciplines. Clinical medicine ranks in the top 5‰ of ESI disciplines, and pharmacology and toxicology rank in the top 1% of ESI disciplines. Currently, there are 5 first-level doctoral degree programs in clinical medicine, 5 master degree programs in basic medicine, clinical medicine, pharmacy, traditional Chinese medicine and biology, and 5 professional master degree programs in clinical medicine, public health, nursing, pharmacy and stomatology.

Part II: Admission Categories and Application Conditions

Major Introduction

(I) Clinical Medicine:

   - Discipline Category: Medicine

   - Degree Conferred: Bachelor of Medicine

   - Education Length: 5 years

   -Objectives: To cultivate well-rounded talents with good moral character, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetic sensibility, and work ethic, possessing excellent professional ethics, innovative spirit, practical ability, and lifelong learning capability. To have a broad foundation in humanities and social sciences as well as natural sciences, solid basic medical theories, strong clinical analysis, clinical thinking, diagnostic and treatment abilities, and preventive healthcare knowledge, basic research qualities, and innovation awareness. As well as good communication skills in both Chinese and English and the ability to obtain, manage, and apply information, capable of engaging in medical practice, medical education, and scientific research.

   - Main Courses: Systematic Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, Pathogen Biology, Medical Immunology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Physiology, Pathology, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Clinical Skills, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Preventive Medicine, totaling 15 courses.

 - Major Features and Highlights:

 - Feature: Aiming to build a core competency and leadership-oriented program, with multiple measures to strengthen the foundation, focusing on the cultivation of humanistic qualities and practical abilities, rooted in Hainan, facing the nation, and radiating to Southeast Asia and tropical regions.

 - Highlight: The Clinical Medicine major is a national characteristic major, a national first-class major construction point, and passed the national Ministry of Education's clinical medicine major certification at a high level in 2014. Clinical Medicine majors have achieved good results in the National Clinical Skills Competition for several consecutive years, including a second prize throughout the nation and a first prize in the South China area in 2011. In 2018, Clinical Medicine was approved for a doctoral degree authorization point; according to the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database, the "Clinical Medicine" discipline entered the top 1% of the global ESI ranking for the first time.

(II) Nursing:

  -Objectives:To cultivate well-rounded talents adapting to the needs of socialist modernization construction and healthcare development in China, who systematically grasp the basic theories, knowledge, and skills of nursing, possess basic clinical nursing abilities, preliminary teaching, management, and research capabilities, and can engage in nursing and preventive healthcare work in various medical and health institutions.

  - Main Courses: Systematic Anatomy, Physiology, Pathogen Biology, Immunology, Pathology, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Nursing Fundamentals, Health Assessment, Internal Nursing, Surgical Nursing, Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing, Pediatrics Nursing, Psychiatry Nursing, Community Nursing, Nursing Research, Nursing Education, Nursing Management, Critical Care Nursing, Nursing Humanities, Geriatric Nursing.

   - Industry and Job Requirements: Graduates can work in clinical and community nursing positions at various medical and healthcare institutions and have potential for development.

Highlights: Nursing is a national first-class undergraduate program construction site, the second batch of virtual teaching and research office construction sites of the Ministry of Education, and the provincial school-level characteristic key disciplines. 2023, we started the enrollment and cultivation of Nursing (undergraduate) and International Nursing Practice (Master) jointly with the College of the West of England in the UK. In the past three years, the passing rate of our nursing licensing examination is 100%

Notes: In accordance with relevant China’s laws and regulations, international students

shall live in the dormitories in the first year, from the second year students can apply to live  outside of school, according to relevant management regulations.

Part IV: Application Materials

Notes:

(I) Regardless of admission outcome, submitted application materials will not be returned. The applicant promises that the provided personal information, proof materials, and documents are true and accurate. Any issues of integrity will lead to inadmissibility.

(II) Applicants must provide their contact number and email when submitting application materials.

(III) Applicants for undergraduate degree education must participate in entrance examination (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology) as a reference for admission.

Part V: Application Process

(I) Submission of Admission Application

- Applicants should send all application materials to the university's designated email hnmu_admission@hainmc.edu.cn before the deadline.

- Application and registration deadlines:

- Application deadline: Before July 15, 2024.

- Registration deadline: Before September 15, 2024.

- Applicants for the Hainan Provincial Government Scholarship(ASEAN) must send relevant materials before May 30,2024, and late submissions will not be accepted.

(II) Qualification Review and Assessment. The university organizes experts to conduct qualification review and entrance assessment to determine the provisional admission list and issue admission notices.

(III) Issuance of Admission Notices. After confirming the students' intention to study, the university will send the "Admission Notice" and the "Visa Application Form for Studying in China" (JW202 form) to the applicants.

(IV) Visa Processing. Upon receiving the university's admission notice and the "Visa Application Form for Studying in China" (JW202 form), applicants should handle visa procedures at the Chinese embassy or consulate on their own.

(V) Registration. Applicants should report to the university with the admission notice and all original and photocopy application materials before the deadline specified in the admission notice.

- Registration deadline for undergraduate students: Before September 15, 2024. Those who cannot report on time due to special reasons should submit proof materials to the university in advance to handle leave procedures. The leave period should not exceed 4 weeks, and only after approval can the enrollment be postponed; otherwise, the admission qualification will be canceled.

Part VI: Scholarships

(I) Hainan Provincial Government International Student Scholarship

The university determines the final recipients of the Hainan Provincial Government Scholarship based on the quota and the "Hainan Medical University 'Hainan Provincial Government  International Student Scholarship(ASEAN)' Management Measures." Applicants can submit application materials to the university within the specified time.

- Recipients of the Hainan Provincial Government Scholarship must participate in the annual scholarship review after enrollment. Those who fail the review will have their scholarship qualification suspended or canceled.

(II) Hainan Medical University International Student Scholarship

The university selects the "Hainan Medical University International Student Scholarship" by the end of each academic year to reward international students who perform excellently in both academics and characters during their studies.
