1 OVERVIEW
The Master of Public Health (MPH) degree is designed to prepare professionals to resolve complex health issues and enhance the wellbeing of communities in China, and around the world. Through excellence in research and service, this respected program seeks to educate and develop capable leaders in the public health workforce by closely aligning with academic community partners and by empowering students to address relevant public health problems today. This interdisciplinary degree challenges you to proactively seek implementable solutions and to develop preventative measures by understanding the scientific, psychological, and sociological competencies that significantly impact public health policy and practices today.
This degree is offered in a traditional format, and requires at least 1 year on-campus study.
Accreditation
The Master of Public Health at Hainan Medical University is accredited in 2014 by China National Committee for Medical Education. We have been reviewed for reaccreditation in 2018.
Certification
Students are eligible to sit for the China National Credentialing Exam in Public Health (CPH) after completing 36 credits in the MPH Program or after they complete the degree.
Admissions Requirements
Applicants to the MPH program must have already earned or be in the process of earning a bachelor’s degree are, reached HSK-Level 5, and passed an online graduate entrance exam of HMU.
Applicants can request a graduate entrance exam waiver under the following conditions:
l Applicants who already possess a master's, PhD, or other advanced degree are eligible to request a graduate entrance exam waiver.
l Applicants may be eligible to waiver the graduate exam requirement based on their undergraduate cumulative GPA

3 CONCENTRATIONS/professional disciplines
1) Clinical Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Medicine:Prepares professionals with epidemiologic knowledge base and skill set for clinical prevention programs, scientific research management positions in medical and health institutions at all levels.
2) Disease Prevention and Control: Prepares professionals with disease surveillance, health informatics knowledge base and skill set for disease prevention and control positions in public health sectors.
3) Health Education and Mental Health: Prepares professionals with modern health education and mental health knowledge base and skill set for health education and promotion positions in community health service institutions.
4) Environment and Health: Prepares professionals with biological, physical and chemical knowledge base and skill set for reproductive health, environmental and public security positions in public health sectors.
5) Nutrition and Wellness: Provides instruction and experience in the basic nutritional science, community nutrition, public health education and other wellness courses representing disciplines such as community and therapeutic recreation, human development and family studies and sociology. Graduates may work in a variety of settings such as voluntary and community health organizations, health care, government, education, and the fitness industry. This concentration also prepares students for graduate training in nutrition, public health education.
6) Health Law and Social Medicine: Provides instruction and experience in the basic health law, social medicine and other related courses representing disciplines such as human development and family studies and sociology. Graduates may work in a variety of settings such as Health law enforcement supervision departments, education, and health care industry.
7) Health Management: Prepares professionals with an interdisciplinary knowledge base and skill set for administrative and leadership positions in the increasingly complex health care and public health sectors.

5 MPH COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS
To receive the MPH degree at Hainan Medical University, students are required to successfully complete 28 credit hour courses and complete an internship (1 year) and a thesis in Chinese. Requests for reduced course will be subject to Hainan Medical University rules and Registrar approval. Courses taken as part of an undergraduate program will not be considered.
